Italian
Giuseppe De Mattia is an Italian artist born in Bari. His artistic practice involves various mediums such as photography, video, sculpture, objects, drawing, and painting, creating a rich tapestry of expression that is often articulated through a dialogue between irony, satire and poignant critique. De Mattia’s artistic research and creations are largely influenced by his upbringing in the South of Italy, where it was normal for his family to sit together outdoors snacking and chatting with one another. Inspired by these forms of ‘oral tradition’, it led him to examine the intricate relationships between memory, reality, traditions and perception. His artistic research showcases phrases by real people on inanimate objects, turning them into ‘speakers’ themselves with each item carrying a meaning that is significant to the space it sits in.
