Art, Memory and Community

At the heart of Colonia Zacamil in El Salvador, CMS Foundation is leading an ambitious regenerative placemaking initiative that reimagines how public spaces can foster community wellbeing, social cohesion, and sustainable economic growth.

Through Proyecto Zacamil, CMS works alongside residents to transform one of the country's most historically stigmatized urban areas into a vibrant, community-led cultural landmark.

About the Project

A living project
in a living community

Colonia Zacamil is one of the largest and most emblematic communities in San Salvador. Through collaborative art projects, residencies and public programs, we create spaces for reflection, learning and expression.

Today, Proyecto Zacamil stands as a powerful example of how creativity, participation, and collective action can transform neighborhoods from within. Through its work, CMS Foundation is helping residents reclaim public space, strengthen community identity, and build a more inclusive and hopeful future for Zacamil.
